Eleagnus × ebbingei (family Elaeagnaceae) is an evergreen ornamental shrub with moderate growth, featuring leathery leaves that are dark green on top and silvery underneath. It blooms in autumn with small, fragrant, cream-colored flowers and produces edible drupes in spring. It tolerates pruning, wind, salt spray, and drought well, making it suitable for hedges and windbreaks. Hardy down to -15 °C, it grows well in full sun or partial shade on well-drained soils, even poor ones. Ideal for Mediterranean and coastal gardens, it is also a good nectar source for pollinators.
