Delosperma is a genus in the family Aizoaceae and it originates from South Africa. It is a branchy dwarf succulent which bears numerous flowers similar to little red, yellow or white daisies. They open up with sunlight and close their petals with the dark. Its leaves are fleshy, thin and elongated; since the vegetation never reaches excessive dimensions, this plant is ideal for long-lastin, resistant blooming borders. The variety “Cooperi” is known for being perennial and for its large, fuchsia flowers.
The Lotus is a genus of herbaceous plant belonging to the family Fabacee (or Legumionous) that includes over a hundred species. The species of the genus Lotus are almost all perennial herbs. They typically have trifoliate compound leaves that have two large stipules at the basis; this conveys the impression of leaves composed of five leaflets instead of three, as it actually is. Some species, however, really have leaves composed of more than three leaflets (imparipinnate), up to about fifteen. The flowers, irregular, with the typical papilionaceous corolla, are almost always yellow but they can have red shades. They are collected in small inflorescences made up of 3-10 flowers. The fruit is a legume.
Gaura is a perennial plant hailing from North America, mostly from Texas, in the family Onagraceae. As its origin might suggest, it is a rustic and resistant plant. It produces a thick bush with green/ reddish leaves and thin stems which bear four-petalled, pink or white flowers with yellow stamens, similar to orchids.
Exuberant and unusual, the Penstemons bloom throughout the summer, bringing joy and color even when the other plants, for the oppressive heat, take a break. It originates from North America and it belongs to a particularly small variety that grows in the mountains on stony ground, very close to the ground. The plant forms several spikes, which are covered with many small flowers similar to the bells: blue, purple and red. It needs full sun and it is resistant to cold.
It is an evergreen shrub in the family Malvaceae, hailing from Asia (Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis) and widespread throughout Europe and in the tropical areas of America. It has large indented and glossy green leaves and it produces five-petalled, funnel-shaped flowers, which are quite large and brightly coloured, from white to pink, to yellow, orange, and of course the iconic deep red. In the central part of the flower, the colour of which is usually in constrast with the petals, there is a large stamen.
Gardenia is a plant in the family Rubiaceae hailing from Asia and the tropical regions of southern Africa. It is an evergreen ornamental plant and it represents elegance because of its thick and bright-green foliage and its pure white flowers with a velvety texture and an extremely sweet scent.
