Greek Basil

It is an annual aromatic plant in the family Lamiaceae. The basil originates from India (where it is regarded as a sacred plant and therefore is not used for cooking) but it has been widespread throughout Europe since ancient times. The “greek basil” variety (also called “Mmnimum” or “ball”) is characterized by very small, pointy, light-green leaves with a rather intense fragrance which grow into a balloon-shaped bush. It has small white flowers and it is used as an ornamental plants and for garden borders also when it has not bloomed yet. It does not withstand low temperatures.

The Pentas Lanceolata originates from Africa and the Middle East and it is widespread in cultivation. It is a perennial plants which, in right climatic conditions, blooms for a long period of time: if the heat is sufficient, blooming starts at the end of the winter and it lasts until autumn. In Italy the chrysanthemum blooms at the end of october and for this reason it is associated to All Saints’ Day. Actually, however, it has traditionally been associated to positive values, and its name stands as a proof to this: it comes from ancient Greek and literally translates to “golden flower”. It is a genus in the family Compositae, and most varieties bloom in autumn, from late October to early November. They prefer to live in a warm-temperate environment.

Vinca o Pervinca

The Vinca or Pervinca is a herbaceous and evergreen plant originating from Europe (very common in Italy) and it belongs to the family Apocynaceae. It could be cultivated both with erect shape and hanging shape (Vinca so-called “Mediterranean”, transplanted in basket). It has a thick shrub with oval leaves, extended and shiny green. It produces a lot of little and delicate flowers, with five pastel colored petals, from white to pink, red, lilac and purple.

It is a particularly rustic plant in the Onagraceae family and it originates from central and southern America. It has oval and deep-green leaves and it produces beautiful flowers with red calyces and white and purple petals, collected in tufts of three or four. Some varieties produce berries, similar to cherries, which are dark-red and edible.

It is an evergreen plant originating from the mountainous areas of the Usa. Gypsophila

Gypsophila is a perennial plant in the family Caryophyllaceae which originates from Europe and Western Asia. It looks like a bush and it bears on all the length of its thin stems numerous white or pink flowers. Because of its compact shape it is commonly called “baby’s-breath” and, in addition to being an ornamental plant for borders, it is used to make bouquets for brides (another common name is, as a matter of fact, “bridal veil”).
