Flowers bloom during the spring on trunks at the center of the fleshy foliage, collected in a dense little rose: they are striated, small, beautiful and they have pink, red and orange shades. It belongs to the family Portulaceae. It is cultivated because of its wonderful blooming both in the pot and in the rocky gardens. It blooms during the spring, it prefers sunny locations and it does not need abundant watering.

It belongs to the Violaceae family and it originates from Europe and America. It is a small and evergreen plant known for its white, yellow, orange, red, lilac, violet or speckled bicolor flowers. It is a green light bush with little and curved leaves. The shades of the colors are different and there are varieties with petals that have a dark spot inside (“Pansy” or “Saint Joseph violet”, since the shades remind the ones of the cape of the Saint). In the mild climate zones the blooming could be forced and it is in autumn until winter.
It belongs to the family Ranunculaceae. The Ranunculus is a simple and elegant flower originating from Asia. It is highly sought for its flowering period which is one of the first that blooms: it blooms in late winter or in early spring. The most common buttercups on the market are the “orientalis”. They generally prefer damp environments and their petals vary from white to intense yellow.
The Cuphea, hailing from Mexico, Peru and central-southern America, produces peculiar, long-lasting, tubular flowers which can be either red or pink: mostly cultivated as an outdoor plant, it has the appearance of a very thick and decorative bush about 80 cm high (30 cm for dwarf varieties). Its blooming is ideal to give a special feeling to a summer terrace. It fears extreme temperatures (both low and high) and it needs abundant watering during summer.
The Sanvitalia (Sanvitalia procumbens) is an annual plant suitable for borders and rocky gardens, which produces countless little yellow flowers throughout the summer and late autumn. It originates from Mexico.
It belongs to the family Liliacae and it originates from Southern Europe and Western Asia. It is a bulbous perennial plant with erect shape. It has bright green and long leaves. It produces a peculiar panicle-shaped inflorescence with many small flowers with orange petals (there is also the “Arabicum” variety with white flowers) that reminds exactly the cockscomb.
Freesia is a genus of herbaceous plants hailing from southern Africa which includes about fifteen botanical species. They all produce small round corms. It is suitable for Mediterranean climates and is rather sensitive to cold. Every single bulb produces a small tuft of ribbon-like, erect, fairly rigid, light-green leaves; from the center of the leaves during the summer a thin and erect stem develops, bearing numerous small trumpet-shaped flowers. It blooms during the spring and it needs direct sunlight.
