Lantana is a perennial shrub in the family Verbenaceae and it originates from south-central America. It has rough, dentate, deep-green leaves which, when broken, give off an unmistakable scent. The Sellowiana variety has a hanging shape and smaller leaves. Lantana bears throughout summer tubular flowers gathered in corymbs, which are characterized by the pecularity of changing shades during the blooming, thus resulting in being multi-color (although there are monochromatic varieties as well). When the blooming finishes, the lantana grows poisonous berries which become edible once they are ripe.
