It has always been recognized as the queen of flowers, with many meanings depending on the local traditions and the colors of the flowers. It originates from the temperate zones of Europe and Asia (the “Kordana” or “mini” variety originates from China). It is a thorny shrub with erect shape (it can also be cultivated as climbing with the aid of espaliers or pyramids). It has small, dark green and serrated leaves and produces the characteristic flower with many velvety petals with white, yellow, orange, pink, red, speckled colors. In many varieties the flowers are perfumed; the “Kordana” variety stands out for the slightly smaller flowers and for the blooming that is flowering much more abundant and lasting than the other cultivations. For its features, as well as an ornamental plant, dried flowers of the rose are also used to produce infusions and essential oils for cosmetics.

It is a small perennial plant, cultivated as an annual plant. The Verbena belongs to the family Verbenaceae and it originates from Central and South America and from Europe. It has hanging shape and long branches. The light green leaves are small, oval, sharp, dentate and with marked veins. It produces small and strongly perfumed flowers, variously colored, from white to pink, red, purple and speckled bicolor. The flowers are collected in spikes at the end of the branches. According to the tradition it is a holy plant and it has curative, analgesic and healing properties.

It originates from North America and it belongs to a particularly small variety that grows in the mountains on stony ground, very close to the ground. The plant forms several spikes, which are covered with many small flowers similar to the bells: blue, purple and red. It needs full sun and it is resistant to cold.
Iberis is a perennial and herbaceous plant in the family Brassicaceae hailing from Southern Europe and Western Asia. It has oval, leathery and dark-green leaves and it produces white, yellow or pink flowers, which are collected in small bunches making iberis an ideal plant for decorating borders and rocky gardens.
The flower Vinca Minor, originating from Europe and the Tropics, is commonly known as Pervinca; it is 10-30 cm high, it has crawling shape and it creates appreciated turfs. The plant needs a lot of brightness. During the summer the ideal temperature swings between 21 and 29 degrees; on the contrary, during the winter it can withstand temperatures close to 0 degrees. During the whole winter the blooming is rich.
It is a small shrub with shiny green foliage. If it is rubbed it releases a strong citrusy fragrance. It shows an elegant foliage during the spring and the summer. In September it is filled with bunches with small pink fruits and later, in autumn, its foliage turns yellow. It withstands both the great summer heat and peaks of cold up to about -5 ° C. It should be exposed to full sun but it can also stay in partially shaded places. The ground should be neutral, fertile and well drained because it doesn’t withstand water stagnation.
The national flower of South Carolina, gelsemium is a pant in the family Loganiaceae and in fact it is native to central and northern America. This climbing, evergreen plant is very rustic and resistant. It has thin, elongated, light-green leaves and it produces little funnel-shaped, fragrant, yellow flowers. Since its appearance and its scent vaguely resemble those of jasmines, gelsemum is also commonly known as “yellow jasmine”.
