The Surfinia is a hybrid that was born in Japan from the botanical experimentation on the Petunia. Therefore, with its “mother”, the Surfinia shares the Central/Southern American geographical origin and the belonging to the family Solanacee. It is different from the “mother” for the hanging shape and for the dimensions and the colors of the flowers that are bigger than it. The foliage is covered by down and it is slightly sticky; the characteristic trumpet inflorescence blooms only at the end of the hanging branches.

The scientific name Leucanthemum Vulgare identifies one of the most common daisies. It has a thick and well branched bush and it produces the classical flower head with the yellow central disk and with white petals.
The Lisianthus (or Eustoma) is a young plant: it was discovered in the Usa in the XIX century and transported to Europe at the beginning of the ‘900. It belongs to the family Gentianaceae. It is cultivated for ornamental purposes in pots and for the trade of cut flowers that are very appreciated for their simple and elegant design; it is characterized by slow growth and it blooms throughout the summer.
It belongs to the family Liliacae and it originates from Southern Europe and Western Asia. It is a bulbous perennial plant with erect shape. It has bright green and long leaves. It produces a peculiar panicle-shaped inflorescence with many small flowers with orange petals (there is also the “Arabicum” variety with white flowers) that reminds exactly the cockscomb.
It is a particularly rustic plant in the Onagraceae family and it originates from central and southern America. It has oval and deep-green leaves and it produces beautiful flowers with red calyces and white and purple petals, collected in tufts of three or four. Some varieties produce berries, similar to cherries, which are dark-red and edible.
The carnation is a herbaceous and perennial plant in the family Caryophyllaceae and it has an uncertain origin. It is assumed that it originates from the mediterranean region but there are many varieties hailing from other parts of Asia and Africa as well. The bush has narrow and elongated greyish/green leaves. The plant produces the peculiar flowers with five petals, single or in bunches, the appearance of which can change considerably depending on the variety.
Among the most widespread and cultivated plants in the world, the carnation flower, typically rippled and variously coloured (red, pink, white, yellow, violet, speckled) has taken on different meanings in popular symbolism in different countries. Thanks to its delicate fragrance, it is also used, once dried, to make pout-pourri.
In Italy the chrysanthemum blooms at the end of october and for this reason it is associated to All Saints’ Day. Actually, however, it has traditionally been associated to positive values, and its name stands as a proof to this: it comes from ancient Greek and literally translates to “golden flower”. It is a genus in the family Compositae, and most varieties bloom in autumn, from late October to early November. They prefer to live in a warm-temperate environment.
