It belongs to the family Scrophulariaceae and it originates from the mediterranean regions. The Antirrhinum is a rustic perennial plant (cultivated a san annual or, at least, biennial) with a woody trunk at the basis and inflorescences with many shades at the end. Its common name “Mouth of the lion” derives from the peculiar shape of the flowers that have a tubular corolla having two formations similar to two lips (the upper one is divided in two lobes and the lower on divided in three ones). It prefers full sunlight and it well withstands low temperatures.

The Bergenia is a small and evergreen plant that originates from Asia; it is characterized by thick tufts with large, dark green and round leaves that become reddish during the autumn. Flowers have different shades that vary from white to pink, going through various nuances. This species is particularly suitable for creating borders or as a groundcover plant. It is a perennial species that grows well in any position from full sun to full shade; it doesn’t fear the cold. It needs abundant and frequent waterings in order to avoid that the soil gets dry.

The Cineraria “cruenta” belongs to the family Asteraceae and it originates from the Canary Islands, although it has quickly developed throughout Europe. It is a multiannual plant characterized by a thick bush with large and dark green leaves. It produces many daisy-shaped flowers with different shades, blue sky, lilac, pink, white etc that cover the whole plant. For its peculiar and abundant blooming and its bushy shape is ideal to create colored spots in flowerbeds and gardens.

The common name Calla indicates some species of rhizomatous plants, originating from Africa. The Callas are very common as potted plants. It is possible to have more bloomings from the same rhizome, always better from year to year. They are grown in large pots, with a good rich and soft topsoil, so that the large rhizomes can easily develop a good root system. Unfortunately it is not possible to indicate a strict rule for watering the callas, as the outdoor or home climate has a great influence on the water needs of the plants. To allow the plants the winter vegetative rest, as soon as the foliage begins to turn yellow, it is necessary to interrupt the watering.

It belongs to the family Fabaceae, it originates from Northen Africa, Southern Europe and Asia. The Citysus Racemosus is a hybrid evergreen shrub with trifoliate and light green leaves and fragrant flowers of bright yellow color, collected in terminal racemes. Ideal for decorating rocky gardens and for borders or for dividing hedges.

The Dahlia is a plant originating from Mexico and widespread throughout Europe thanks to its extraordinary beauty of its very colored flower heads. It is a bulb plant and it has large and intense green leaves. Dahlia’s flowers, with multiple shades from white to yellow, pink to purple represent (originally in the Aztec culture) the femininity and the kindness of women and are, therefore, indicated to make them a gift.

It is a particularly rustic plant belonging to the Onagraceae family and it originates from Central and South America. It has oval and intense green leaves and it produces beautiful flowers with red calyx and white and purple petals, collected in tufts of three or four. Some varieties produce berries, similar to cherries, dark red and edible.

The Lantana is a perennial and bushy shrub that has intense green leaves, wrinkled and dentate that, if broken, give off an unmistakable aroma. The Sellowiana variety has a hanging shape and smaller leaves. Throughout the summer, until the autumn the Lantana produces tubular flowers gathered in corymbs, characterized by the pecularity of changing shades during the blooming, thus resulting in being multi-color (although there are monochromatic varieties). After blooming, poisonous berries appear when they are still unripe, but they become edible when they are ripe.

The Ortensia is a perennial shrub belonging to the family Hydrangeaceae and it originates from East Asia (China and Japan) and from North America. It is known throughout the world for its extraordinary blooming; it has large, dark green and dentate leaves and it produces a big balloon inflorescence (with a diameter up to 20 cm) with many small flowers of different colors, from white to pink, to lilac up to blue. The coloring of the flowers can be influenced by the reaction of the plant to the type of soil; greater acidity leads to flowers tending to blue, while in basic or alkaline soils there will be flowers tending to pink.

It is commonly known as Dimorphoteca or “African daisy” as well. It belongs to the family Asteraceae and it originates from Southern Africa. It has a basically climbing shape, it has small, oval and light green leaves and it produces typical light blue flowers (for this reason it is usually known as “Blue sky jasmine”; there is also a variety with red flowers, “Plumbago Indica” or “Rosea”) collected in big spikes.

The Rhodanthemum is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is cultivated both in pots and in open ground. It is used to make gardens and flowerbeds more colorful. It prefers sunny positions, loose and well-drained soils; it withstands temperatures of -10 degrees. Watering shouldn’t be very frequent and it’s necessary to do it just when the substratum is dry.

It has always been recognized as the queen of flowers, with many meanings depending on the local traditions and the colors of the flowers. It originates from the temperate zones of Europe and Asia (the “Kordana” or “mini” variety originates from China). It is a thorny shrub with erect shape (it can also be cultivated as climbing with the aid of espaliers or pyramids). It has small, dark green and serrated leaves and produces the characteristic flower with many velvety petals with white, yellow, orange, pink, red, speckled colors. In many varieties the flowers are perfumed; the “Kordana” variety stands out for the slightly smaller flowers and for the blooming that is flowering much more abundant and lasting than the other cultivations. For its features, as well as an ornamental plant, dried flowers of the rose are also used to produce infusions and essential oils for cosmetics.
