The common name calla refers to certain species of rhizomatous plants hailing from Africa. The callas are rather common as potted plants and it is possible to have the same rhizome blooming several times, with an increasing quality year after year. They are grown in large pots with a good rich and soft topsoil, so that the large rhizomes can easily develop a good root system. Unfortunately it is not possible to indicate a definitive rule when it comes to watering the callas, as the outdoor or home climate has a great influence on the needs of the plants. However, it is necessary in any case to interrupt the watering as soon as the foliage begins, which marks the beginning of the period of vegetative rest.
