The common name Calla indicates some species of rhizomatous plants, originating from Africa. The Callas are very common as potted plants. It is possible to have more bloomings from the same rhizome, always better from year to year. They are grown in large pots, with a good rich and soft topsoil, so that the large rhizomes can easily develop a good root system. Unfortunately it is not possible to indicate a strict rule for watering the callas, as the outdoor or home climate has a great influence on the water needs of the plants. To allow the plants the winter vegetative rest, as soon as the foliage begins to turn yellow, it is necessary to interrupt the watering.
