It belongs to the Myrtaceae family and it is an evergreen shrub originating from Australia and New Zeland. The Leptospermum has little, intense green, rich of essential oils leaves (if pressed they release a pleasant smell) and it produces flowers in the shape of a chalice with five petals, pink or white, followed by fruits, small woody berries. It is also known as Manuka or “tea tree” (variety “Petersonii”) for its particular fragrance similar to the one of lemon: as a matter of fact, it is used to flavor tea infusions, while its flowers are used in the honey production industry.
The Solanum Jasmionoides belongs to the family Solanaceae and it originates from Brasil. It is an evergreen climbing shrub with glossy green leaves and with five petals and pure white flowers, sometimes tending to pink or blue, collected in bunches at the end of the branches. It is also called “Jasmine at night” because the flowers give off a sweet smell just at night.
It is an evergreen climbing plant belonging to the Apocinaceae and it originates from Southern America. The Mandevillea Suaveolens is vaguely similar to the Dipladenia but it’s different from it because its leaves are bigger, wrinkled (particularly evident in the “Alice du Pont”) and brighter. It is different as well for the size of the flowers that are larger and slightly perfumed.
The lemon is a fruit plant originating from India and Indo-China but nowadays it is common all over the world (the Mediterranean and tropical regions of South America are those with the greatest production). It belongs to the family Rutaceae and it has oval leaves that are darker from one side and brighter from the other side. It has different shapes from the small tree to the espalier. It produces perfumed and white little flowers, with violet borders from which the characteristic round (or oblong) fruits are born, green when unripe and yellow when ripe, with an unmistakable sour taste. It is used in the food industry where jams, infusions and/or liqueurs are produced from its fruits.
It originates from the Mediterranean basin but it is spread in India and in some Atlantic islands. It is a herbaceous, perennial and evergreen plant belonging to the family Labiatae. The leaves, narrow and elongated, end with an ear-shaped inflorescence of violet/purple color. Inside of this there are glands containing the base aromatic oil for the production of various fragrances used in the cosmetics and as a spice in the kitchen. The Stoechas variety has slightly silver leaves and it produces larger dark purple flowers, surmounted by a characteristic tuft of purple bracts.
It originates from Asia and it belongs to the Hamamelidaceae family. The Loropetalum has a densely branched stem with mainly horizontal development. In some years they can reach 2-3 meters in height. Both the emission of the leaves and the blooming in this plant take place quite early: this makes it doubly valuable as it gives color and liveliness at a time while the other plants are still almost bare.
