Myrtus communis is an evergreen shrub in the Myrtaceae family, native to Mediterranean coastal regions. It grows up to 1.5–3 meters tall and features small, leathery, aromatic leaves, white fragrant flowers, and blue-purple berries that ripen in autumn. Myrtle is widely used in traditional medicine, cooking, and liquor production, particularly in Sardinia, where it is used to make the well-known Mirto liqueur.
