Violacciocca (Wallflower)

It is an annual plant belonging to the family Brassicaceae and originating from Europe. It has an erect shape, thick and green/grayish foliage. The sterns hold the beautiful flowers with curled, perfumed and brightly colored petals, collected in spikes. It is a very spread plant in the Uk where it is traditionally used in order to decorate the external cottages’ walls.

Begonia

More than a thousand species belongs to the family Begoniaceae, and they all originate from tropical and subtropical areas. The ideal cultivation temperature is around 15° throughout the year; these plants thrive in intense light but should not be put in direct sunlight. During the winter they should be kept in a cool environment, in which temperatures should not drop below 13° C. Begonias should be watered quite often depending on external temperatures; however, it is best to let the topsoil dry out before watering it again. In particular, during winter watering should be drastically reduced.

Helichrysum (Paper flower)

It is a perennial shrub belonging to the family Asteraceae and originating from Asia and Africa. The Helichrysum has elongated and light green leaves from which arise the erect stems with the characteristic large daisy flowers with a paper consistency (called, precisely, “Paper flower”), golden yellow or glossy violet. The flowers don’t wither but they dry while keeping intact the shape and aroma and, for this reason, they are considered very decorative.

It is a herbaceous, perennial and tuberose plant. Flowers have a bell shape,they are velvety with a color that varies according to the species and the variety. Thanks to the beauty of the flowers these plants are used as apartment plants. The blooming from May to August is copious, it produces flowers long up to 5-10 cm of violet or purple color. For blooming they need at least 12-14 hours of light, the plants should be placed in a well-lit position but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The ambient temperature should not fall below 18 ° C. In autumn, after the blooming, the aerial part begins to dry up, and when this phase is completed the tubers have to be extracted from the ground and placed in a cool, dry place in the dark . The ideal storage temperature is 10-12 ° C, where they will remain until the following March, when they will be repotted.
