It is an annual plant belonging to the family Brassicaceae and originating from Europe. It has an erect shape, thick and green/grayish foliage. The sterns hold the beautiful flowers with curled, perfumed and brightly colored petals, collected in spikes. It is a very spread plant in the Uk where it is traditionally used in order to decorate the external cottages’ walls.

It belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. It is a typically photoperiodic or brevidiurnal plant; for this reason it blooms during the winter when the days are shorter.

Gloxinia

Gloxinia is a herbaceous, perennial, tuberose plant. It is appreciated as a decorative houseplant because of the beauty of its velvety, bell-shaped flowers which come in various colours depending on the species and the variety. Blooming occurs from May to August and it produces numerous violet or purple flowers which are 5-10cm. In order to bloom, gloxinia needs at least 12-14 hours of light per day; it should be placed in a well-lit position but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The ambient temperature should not fall below 18 ° C. In autumn, after the blooming, the aerial part begins to dry up, and when this phase is completed the tubers have to be extracted from the soil and placed in a cool, dry place in the dark, where they will remain until the following March, when they will be repotted. . The ideal storage temperature is 10-12 ° C.

Coloured calla

The common name calla refers to certain species of rhizomatous plants hailing from Africa. The callas are rather common as potted plants and it is possible to have the same rhizome blooming several times, with an increasing quality year after year. Helichrysum (Everlasting flower)

It is a perennial shrub in the family Asteraceae, hailing from Asia and Africa. The helichrysum has elongated, light-green leaves from which the erect stems with the characteristic large, daisy-shaped flowers grow. They can be golden yellow or glossy violet, and they have a papery consistency . They do not wither but they dry while keeping intact the shape and aroma and, thus the common name “everlasting flower”. For this reason, they are considered to be very decorative.
